ANS Advanced Network Services has been awarded an experimental license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to perform private tests in the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) frequency band.
The pilot is being undertaken at ANS’s headquarters in Albany, N.Y. in conjunction with the company’s technology partner, ARRIS/Ruckus. The pilot utilizes ARRIS/Ruckus’s CBRS LTE small cells and their cloud evolved packet core (EPC).
CBRS is a new shared spectrum in the U.S. which uses TD-LTE to provide a wireless voice and data service at 3.5 GHz. Wireless carriers using this new publicly available transmission band are expected to be able to deploy 5G mobile networks quickly and easily without having to acquire a spectrum license. CBRS is ideal for in-building applications, public spaces, and industrial IoT.
ANS is currently testing private LTE for various use cases by deploying CBRS in office and warehouse space in the 100,000 SF Albany facility. Use cases included in the test include: private LTE for data; physical security applications, secure data transfer, secure connectivity, access controls, smart building applications, asset tracking, WiFi router delivery, mobility, and several industry-specific uses.
As part of the pilot, ANS is monitoring all KPIs and evaluating ways to improve performance and expand use cases.
