Improve First Responder Communications and Ensure Public Safety Compliance with a Reliable ERRCS Solution

ERRCS, also called Public Safety Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), is a wireless public safety system that receives external radio signals and retransmits them inside buildings and “dead zone” areas – ensuring first responders have an effective and reliable way to communicate during emergencies. Many jurisdictions now require a compliant ERRCS as a prerequisite for obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy (CO).

ANS provides ERRCS design, installation, testing, maintenance, and monitoring services for new construction and existing facilities. Public safety DAS specialists will install a tailored ERRCS designed specifically for your unique spectrum environment, building parameters, and local AHJ code requirements to ensure complete RF penetration and compliance with mandatory regulations.

8+ Years of ERRCS Experience

From Chicago to the Northeast and down the East Coast, with offices in NY, PA, OH, and IL, ANS is a single-source provider for all your public safety DAS needs. ANS has experience designing and deploying public safety DAS projects for complex environments, including hotels, hospitals, and multi-use facilities.

Emergency Responder Radio Communication System (ERRCS) FAQs

What is an ERRCS?

An emergency responder radio communication system (ERRCS) is a wireless public safety system that receives external radio signals and retransmits them inside the building – ensuring reliable 2-way radio coverage in all areas of the facility, especially critical coverage areas such as:

  • Elevators
  • Basements
  • Stairwells
  • Fire pump rooms
  • Exit passageways
  • Other heavily shielded areas
What Type of Buildings Need Emergency Responder Radio Communications Systems?

Here are a few types of facilities that typically require the installation of ERRCS:

  • Multi-use properties
  • Senior living facilities
  • Stadiums and arenas
  • Educational institutions
  • Malls and retail centers
  • Factories and warehouses
  • Hotels and hospitality venues
  • High-rise commercial buildings
What are ERRCS Annual Inspections?

ERRCS annual inspections are intended to uncover equipment malfunction, coverage, and interference issues to minimize the risk of these issues being identified during an emergency. During an annual inspection, the ANS team will perform the following tasks:

  • Review technical information and on-site documentation
  • Visually inspect the system to ensure all components are correctly installed
  • Measure system coverage and conduct grid testing
  • Verify equipment alarms
  • Conduct backup battery tests
  • Compile a compliance report with recommendations for any corrective actions
Do ERRCS Require Retesting?

Emergency responder radio communication systems must be retested annually to ensure compliance with NFPA, IFC, and local AHJ code requirements. Besides the mandated annual test, several situations require retesting, such as:

  • When local authorities change their radio frequencies
  • If local authorities update from an analog to a digital-based system
  • New construction or environmental elements that cause significant signal interference
What are Some of the Required Public Safety DAS Components?

Drawing on suggested ordinances written by NFPA and IFC, many local jurisdictions require certain elements when installing an ERRCS. Some of the required features of a public safety DAS include:

Installed systems must have ALL of these components to pass inspection. ANS will ensure that all the appropriate components are specified, procured, and installed in adherence to mandatory regulations
